What’s new about the UDMB brass sections?
The most exciting news is that we have just moved into a brand new 48 million dollar facility.
This facility (the Center for the Arts) houses
a storage/locker room facility for all members, a separate secure area for sousaphones, and is the home one of our main rehearsal
rooms--Puglisi Orchestra Hall.
And speaking of sousaphones, we just purchased 12 brand new Jupiter quad-valve University model horns. 8 more will be purchased this spring
bringing the inventory to 20, with our spare 8 Conn/King models in storage. In addition to the sousaphones we purchased a brand new line
of 24 Jupiter mellophones as well as 12 Jupiter Baritones.
Next on the purchase list are 8 additional Jupiter baritones to fill out the inventory, as well as 20-24 trombones. There is the possibility of addition 50 (yes 50!) trumpets to the inventory so that every brass member will be issued a performance instrument!

Are there auditions?
Band is a place for everyone!
This is the philosophy upon which the University of Delaware Marching Band is built. In an effort to ensure you have a positive
and successful (and FUN!) experience with the UDMB new brass and woodwind members need to join us for a day of UDMB ORIENTATION!
UDMB ORIENTATION gives you a jump-start on Band Camp. It is held in a workshop format. You will learn the beginning of our marching
basics program and music program. You will even depart knowing some of the music for the upcoming fall season. And most importantly,
when you depart you will already have made friends with members of the band BEFORE band camp even starts!
UDMB ORIENTATION gives YOU the opportunity to show the staff that you meet our basic performance standards. everyone will have
the chance to give an "IPO"--"individual performance opportunity." We call it that because we do NOT treat it
as an audition, but rather a placement hearing. The IPO is used to decide instrumentation part placement (1st, 2nd 3rd).
(On the very rare occasion someone does not meet our minimum standards they are given an alternate position for the first show
in order to work towards a permanent position in the second show. Again, this is a very rare situation.)
